Orientation Staff 2019-2020

Every year nearly 70 current students welcome new students at the start of the academic year and assist them in their transition to Colgate promoting a healthy, safe, and inclusive community where all new students are valued and respected.

Positions Available

Orientation Coordinator

Orientation Coordinators assist new students and family members throughout Orientation. They serve as volunteers for all things related to new student orientation assisting with logistics and ensuring that events run smoothly.

Orientation Coordinators play a critical role in welcoming students to campus and answering new student and family questions. Training begins Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Responsibilities conclude Friday, August 30, 2019. Applications have now closed for 2019-2020.  

Link Staff

Link staff provide a purposeful mentoring experience that introduces students to the university and seeks to foster personal growth and success for each individual. Links work to support new students toward making meaningful and responsible contributions to the campus and local community. Since Link staff serve as mentors to all incoming students, they are held to a higher standard of responsibility on campus because of their crucial leadership role.

Link Staff mentor a small group of new students throughout their first year on campus and work closely with First-Year Seminar instructors. Positions are available to work with either incoming first-year students or incoming transfer students. Training begins Monday, August 19, 2019. Responsibilities conclude May 15, 2020. Applications have now closed for 2019-2020.  
Position Expectations for Orientation Coordinators and Link Staff
  • Maintain a standard of personal conduct consistent with the values, expectations, and responsibilities of Colgate University community.
  • Serve as a resource and positive role model for all new students. 
  • Promote a healthy, safe, and inclusive community where all new students are valued and respected. 
  • Introduce new students and their families to the university
  • Attend and actively participate in all training session, Orientation events, and staff meetings
  • Accept no other employment or obligations that may interfere with my commitment to training and Orientation (August 19-30, 2019)
  • Fulfill specific responsibilities of position
Criteria for Section for Orientation Assistants and Link Staff
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA required
  • Both academic and conduct records are considered in the selection process

March 31, 2019: Applications due at 11:59 p.m.
April 10, 2019: Applicants notified if invited to participate in the group interview 
April 13, 2019: Group Interviews
April 16, 2019: Group Interviews
April 29, 2019: Applicants notified of selection
